Car rental in Limassol – a convenient solution for your vacation

Car rental in Limassol – a convenient solution for your vacation

Limassol is the second-largest city in Cyprus and the island’s largest port. It combines a business center, a tourist resort, and cultural venues. For comfortable travel between districts, visiting beaches, promenades, and attractions, renting a car is the optimal solution. This service is popular among both tourists and business travelers.

Limassol stretches along the coast for almost 15 kilometers. Distances between districts are considerable: from the old port to the luxurious marina or the business center in the Germasogeia district, it can sometimes take up to 30 minutes to travel. Public transportation is limited, and taxis are expensive when used extensively.

A rental car solves these problems, allowing you to plan your day independently. It allows you to conveniently travel beyond the city limits to Kykkos Monastery, the Troodos Mountains, the Omodos wineries, or the Kourion archaeological site.

For guests arriving via Larnaca or Paphos airports, renting a car is also a convenient way to transfer to Limassol —the journey takes about an hour.

Terms and requirements for tenants

Most companies have standard requirements: at least one year of driving experience; driver age: 21 years and older; and a valid driver’s license (for foreign tourists, an international one).

Drivers under 25 may be subject to higher insurance rates. A passport and a bank card for a deposit are required to complete the rental. Cash payments are rarely accepted, as the deposit is blocked on the card until the car is returned.

Car rental prices in Limassol vary depending on the season, car category, and rental duration.

  • In winter (November to March), economy class rental costs 25–35 euros per day.
  • In summer (June – September) – from 50 euros and up, especially in popular tourist areas.
  • When renting for a week or more, the price per day can be reduced to 20–25 euros.

The basic package typically includes liability insurance, road taxes, and maintenance. GPS services, child seats, a second driver, or full coverage insurance are available as additional charges.

When renting a car, insurance is required:

  • Basic Insurance – basic coverage for damage to third parties.
  • CDW ( Collision Damage Waiver ) – partial coverage in case of an accident.
  • Full Insurance – full coverage, including damage, theft, glass and tires.

The deposit amount depends on the vehicle class and insurance level, ranging from €300 to €1,500. Upon returning the car without damage, the deposit is fully released within a few days.

Long-term lease

For those visiting Limassol for an extended period, rentals starting from one month are advantageous. Companies offer flexible rates, maintenance, and replacement vehicles if needed. Long-term rentals are popular among expats wintering in Cyprus and business travelers working for international companies in the city.

Receiving and returning a vehicle

In Limassol, car pickup points are located in the city center, on the promenade, and in major hotels. Some companies deliver the car to the customer’s home address. Before signing the contract, it is necessary to inspect the car’s technical condition, check the fuel level, and document any scratches and defects.

Returns are made with a full tank, unless otherwise stated in the rental terms. If you are more than an hour late, an additional day may be added.

Traffic Laws

In Cyprus, traffic drives on the left side of the road, with the steering wheel on the right. Most cars are equipped with air conditioning and automatic transmission, which is especially important for visitors unaccustomed to driving on the left.

Standard speed limits:

  • within the city limits – up to 50 km/h;
  • outside the city – up to 80 km/h;
  • on motorways – up to 100 km/h.

Traffic in Limassol is moderate, but during rush hour (morning and evening), congestion is possible, especially at the entrances to the city center and in the Marina Zone area. Roads are in excellent condition, navigation is intuitive, and signs are also available in English.

When entering roundabouts, vehicles already in the circle have priority. Fines for speeding and cell phone use are automatically recorded and reported to rental companies.

Parking

Parking in Limassol is varied and well organized.

  • Paid areas are located along the waterfront, the old port, the marina, and the city center. The cost is 1–2 euros per hour.
  • Free parking is available near shopping centers, on the outskirts and near some beaches.
  • Hotel parking is often provided free of charge to guests.

It’s important to pay close attention to signs: in some areas, parking is prohibited on certain days of the week due to street cleaning.

Popular routes from Limassol

Having a car makes travelling around Cyprus as convenient as possible:

  • Kourion is an archaeological complex with an amphitheater and panoramic sea views, 20 minutes’ drive away.
  • The village of Omodos is the center of the wine region, famous for its monastery and handicraft shops.
  • Troodos Mountains – scenic routes, waterfalls, traditional villages, about 1.5 hours drive.
  • Paphos is an ancient museum city with mosaics and tombs of the kings, the journey takes 1 hour.
  • Lady’s Beach Mile is a popular holiday spot near the port, accessible only by car.

Renting a car in Limassol isn’t just convenient; it also allows you to see a different side of Cyprus. Having your own vehicle makes your vacation more dynamic, and exploring the island more fulfilling and comfortable. A well-developed road network, transparent rental terms, and high-quality service make this service reliable and popular.
