In the first quarter of 2023, the number of building permits issued decreased compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, however, the total cost and area of these permits increased, as figures released by the Statistical Office of Cyprus on Thursday show.
According to official figures, 1,816 building permits were issued between January and March 2023, compared to 1,951 in the corresponding period of the previous year, a decrease of 6.9%. However, the total cost of these permits increased by 6.9% and the total area increased by 6.5%. The number of residential premises decreased by 3.2%.
The number of building permits issued by municipalities and district administrations in March 2023 increased to 673 from 642 in March 2022.
The total value of these permits reached 242.8 million euros, compared to 209.7 million euros in March 2022, and the total area was 207.9 thousand square meters, compared to 176.7 thousand square meters. These building permits provide for the construction of 876 housing units.
