Akamas National Forest Park has begun in full compliance with environmental conditions, according to a statement from the Department of Environment and a report published after analyzing all available data.
The experts’ conclusion is based on a comprehensive assessment conducted jointly with the Department of Forestry, as well as with the involvement of experts from the Geological Survey and the Department of Water Resources Development. The work took into account the opinions of relevant departments and the conclusions made during the discussion of the issue in the Special Committee on 16 April 2025.
The assessment confirmed that the project complies with the environmental conditions set out in the decisions of the Ministerial Council and the latest Special Environmental Assessment of March 2024.
To ensure continuous compliance with all standards, a daily monitoring mechanism is envisaged. For this purpose, an environmental auditor will be appointed, who will be located on the territory of the park and submit a daily report to the Department of Environmental Protection. The documents will be accompanied by photographic materials, which will allow for the most transparent monitoring of the progress of work.
Strategic importance of the project
Akamas National Forest Park project is of great importance for Cyprus. It is aimed not only at developing tourism infrastructure, but also at preserving the unique ecosystems of the area. Establishing strict control at each stage ensures a balance between the development of the territory and the protection of nature.
Akamas National Forest Park is becoming an example of how large-scale infrastructure projects can be implemented with strict adherence to environmental standards and the use of daily monitoring mechanisms.
