An important political decision to build a new, modern hospital in Polis Chrysochous was announced by Cypriot President Nicholas Christodoulides during the official opening ceremony of three significant urban infrastructure projects. The new hospital will be located on the site of a former military camp and will become the district’s central medical facility.
The President emphasized that the creation of this hospital is not simply an infrastructural necessity, but a historical justice for local residents, as well as the fulfillment of a serious responsibility of the state.
The new hospital will be part of a comprehensive development plan for the Polis Chrysochous region and the surrounding Tylliria area , within which the government is implementing projects to improve healthcare, social infrastructure and cultural life.

Three new facilities for residents and visitors of the area
1. Multifunctional cultural center ” Multispace of the sea and culture” in Lachi
The first of the projects to open was the ” Multi-Space of Sea and Culture” center, located in Lachi . It united the historic buildings of former warehouses associated with the area’s fishing past and transformed them into a contemporary space dedicated to the region’s maritime heritage and culture.
The €1.9 million project was implemented with support from the European Union’s fisheries and maritime development programmes. The centre aims not only to preserve the historical identity but also to serve as a magnet for tourists and cultural initiatives.
2. Ecotourism Exhibition Centre of Reptiles and Amphibians in Neo Chorio
The second facility, an exhibition center dedicated to biodiversity, opened in Neo Chorio . It displays rare species of reptiles and amphibians native to Cyprus. The center also offers opportunities for environmental education and ecotourism.
The cost of the project was approximately €400,000, of which €340,619 was provided through the “Rural Development Programme 2014–2020 with the participation of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development”.
