17th Agros Rose Festival: A Floral Symphony of May Days

17th Agros Rose Festival: A Floral Symphony of May Days

Every year, the heart of the Cypriot village of Agros comes alive with the Rose Festival, a celebration dedicated to the legendary flower that defines this region. In 2025, the festival will take place on May 10–11 and May 17–18 at the Glafkos Clerides Sports Centre.

Now in its 17th edition, the festival attracts nature lovers, culture enthusiasts, and curious visitors. Over two May weekends, the narrow streets fill with the captivating scent of roses, folk melodies resonate in the air, and local artisans reveal their time-honored secrets.

Historical Context

Agros is renowned as the birthplace of one of the world’s most precious essential oils. The tradition of distilling rose petals dates back to the late 19th century, when Cypriot entrepreneurs established the first rose water and oil factory. Today, family-run workshops preserve these ancestral techniques, handpicking petals and passing down their craftsmanship through generations.
