Аction plan for the Modernization of Mackenzie District Plots

18.07.2023

Last Friday, 07/14/2023, the T /S Asset Management Advisory Committee (AC) met and decided to promote the implementation of the Mackenzie Area Modernization and Better Site Management Action Plan.

The meeting, which was chaired by Mr. Konstantinos Ioannou, was attended by representatives of parliamentary parties, agricultural organizations, the Pan-Cypriot Union of Refugees, as well as the General Confederation of Pan-Cypriot Organizations of Craftsmen, managing professional industries, as members of the SE. The meeting was held in the presence of the Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Viras and representatives of the provincial administration of Larnaca due to the nature of the issue.

The topic of the session was the management of 17 lots/homes in the Mackenzie area. In particular, the purpose of the meeting was to approve the Mackenzie Area Modernization and Better Land Management Action Plan, prepared to address chronic and complex issues affecting the area, such as land management and leasing regimes, unauthorized urban development, illegal exploitation of real estate. and recreation centers, as well as the introduction of a comprehensive framework that regulates issues arising in connection with economic activities in the territory.

New mechanisms being promoted under the Action Plan include entering into lease agreements with displaced entrepreneurs who are active in the area and have not violated the terms and obligations in the context of their previous contractual relationship with local authorities. These include lease agreements with active entrepreneurs who have invested in real estate development, which put an end to distortions and illegal financial transactions. They correspond to modern economic data, mainly in terms of land rent. They ensure compliance with all those conditions that must be met in relation to the activities of leisure centers (urban planning and / or building permits, operating permits, etc.). Thanks to them, the budget receives a significant income (more than a million a year), which will be used to strengthen support for displaced people.

It is expected that the implementation of the Action Plan will contribute to the settlement of all unresolved issues plaguing the problem, including unregulated development, and will also create conditions for further development and modernization of the economic and tourism activities of the region.
